Gifted Services
Gifted Services in USD #373 are provided through the Harvey County Special Education Coop. Extended learning services promote, support, and meet the special needs of our talented, intellectually and creatively gifted youth within Newton, Hesston, & Halstead districts. Teachers of Gifted Students at all levels have fulfilled licensure requirements and specific training at the graduate level to work with gifted students.
Differentiation within the classroom is the philosophical basis for gifted services in Harvey County. Gifted services provide enrichment and acceleration for students who show academic and intellectual need for Special Education services in K-12. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is written specifically for each student identified as Gifted. The IEP describes and guides services for each child on an individual basis. Kansas has statutes and regulations regarding IEPs, which also include children identified as gifted.
“Gifted” as defined in Kansas means performing or demonstrating the potential for performing at significantly higher levels of accomplishment in one or more academic fields due to intellectual ability, when compared to others of similar age, experience and environment.
Services will look different for each building/level. Please see the Resource Guide for more information.
