Ian Reid Long selected to serve as Ex-Officio Member of KASB Board of Directors

Newton, KS — USD 373 Board of Education member and President Ian Reid Long has been selected to serve as an Ex Officio member of the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) Board of Directors.

In this role, Long will participate in board discussions and provide insight in a non-voting, advisory capacity, helping strengthen collaboration and communication between local school districts and statewide educational leadership. The Ex Officio position is designed to bring district-level perspective to KASB’s work while preserving the Board’s formal governance structure.

“As an Ex Officio member, my role is to help connect the voices of local school boards and communities with statewide conversations about public education,” Long said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve, to listen, and to help ensure decisions remain grounded in what is best for students, families, and communities across Kansas.”

Long’s appointment reflects his ongoing commitment to public education, collaborative leadership, and service beyond the local district, while continuing to prioritize the needs and values of USD 373 Newton. Through this role, he will help elevate local perspectives, share governance experience, and support KASB’s mission of advocating for strong, effective school boards throughout the state.
