Kimberly Tate named 2026 Kansas Master Teacher

Kimberly Tate, a 7th grade math teacher at Chisholm Middle School, is a Kansas Master Teacher.

Seven educators from across the state were selected for the honor for demonstrating the attributes of exemplary professional educators. Established in 1954, this award is presented each year by Emporia State University to a select group of honorees.

Mrs. Tate has worked at Chisholm since 2004. She is known for showing up for students both inside and outside the classroom setting.

“Mrs. Tate's ability to connect with her students is one of qualities that make her an excellent teacher. She makes students feel valued and understood. Mrs. Tate works with every student to ensure their needs in understanding the material are being met,” parent Kristen Coffman said in her nomination letter.

USD 373 administrators, Chisholm Middle School principal Tiffany Stephey and assistant principal Petrina Griffitts and Mrs. Tate’s family surprised her when she received the phone call of her award status this week.

Master Teacher recipients were selected by a committee including representatives from the Kansas Association of School Boards, Kansas State Board of Education, K-12 Kansas Principal Association, Kansas Parent Teacher Association, Kansas National Education Association, United School Administrators, Kansas Association of Teacher Educators – Kansas, and representatives of the 2025 Kansas Master Teacher class.

Congratulations, Mrs. Tate! #RailerPride
